Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Has Established A Strategic Partnership With The University Of Ottawa, Canada

CANADA, 19TH AUGUST 2022 – a delegation from the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) headed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Roziah Mohd Janor, were with Mr Jacques Frémont, President of the University of Ottawa in an official visit on 19th August 2022, in Ottawa, Canada. The visit was to strengthen bilateral relations between UiTM-University of Ottawa.

The first stage of this meeting was the signing of the Letter of Intent between the two universities, on May 25th, 2022. The collaboration focused on accommodating staff and students for mobility programme. The program also includes guest speakers and lecturers for collaborative teaching, joint organisation of international competitions, international Internship placements alongside with research and publication activities. The exchange initiative was expected to prepare students with value-added learning experiences from the exposure to the various aspects of culture, economy, education, and ecology in other countries to the content areas. Around April 2022, UiTM has strengthened its position with the recognition of 3 broad subject areas and fourteen subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022. Chemical Engineering is reported as one of the subjects with great achievement for academic reputation. Two other subject areas retain the performances where Petroleum Engineering maintained their positions at 101-150 in the world, while Electrical and Electronic Engineering upheld their positions at 351-400.

As UiTM has demonstrated relevant results in the QS World University Rankings, a future strategy to expand the strength has been anticipated. The QS World University Rankings 2022 includes 26 top universities from Canada, therefore the potential of collaboration in numerous courses such as engineering, telecommunications, environmental science, music and languages offered by Canadian universities and colleges are accessible. Inspired by the outstanding reputation, the state-of-the-art facilities and over 1,100 teaching and research laboratories of the University of Ottawa, UiTM has stepped forward to establish bilateral cooperation with the institution. The strength of UiTM and the University of Ottawa should be disseminated and therefore benefit staff and students in the institutions.

Earlier, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Roziah Mohd Janor, Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Prof. Dr. Yamin Yasin, Rector of UiTM Negeri Sembilan Branch, and UiTM representatives paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysian High Commissioner in Canada on the 18th of August 2022. Present to receive the delegation was the Malaysian High Commissioner to Canada, Her Excellency Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin and staff of the Malaysian High Commission.

During the visit, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Roziah Mohd Janor and team discussed UiTM’s long-term planning and strategies in introducing UiTM to Canada. Efforts by UiTM are greatly supported by the Malaysian High Commissioner in Canada. The move is also in sync with UiTM’s internationalisation agenda which was outlined in UiTM’s 2025 Strategic Plan (UiTM2025) towards achieving Globally Renowned University (GRU).
