International Webinar – IT Ethical Issues: Perspective and Reality. The Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM) Initiative.

SHAH ALAM, 24th June 2023 – The Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM) initiative, a program under the umbrella of Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), is designed to blend academic goals with community outreach. It aims to create an immersive learning environment for students, wherein they can apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios and address social issues. This approach allows students to use their knowledge, competencies, and abilities to find solutions for community challenges, aligning with the objective of SDG 4: Quality Education.

On June 17, 2023, the Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons.) Intelligent Systems Engineering (CS259) students through the Artificial Intelligence Society (AIS), College of Computing, Informatics and Media, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Selangor, presented the SULAM project associated with their course on Ethical, Social, and Professional Issues in ICT (ICT652). The project, guided by Mr. Muhammad Yusof Bin Sharif, revolved around the theme of “International Webinar – IT Ethical Issues: Perspective and Reality,” and was held at 9:30 a.m. IST and 12 p.m. MYT.

With the assistance of Prof. Dr. V. Parthasarathy, Dean – R&D and Industry Relations from Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Tamil Nadu, India, the event saw an impressive turnout, with 154 students attending the virtual session via Microsoft Teams. Ellynoorsyakirah Imana Binti Rokmanuddin and Mohamad Ruzaimi Bin Rosdi acted as the event’s Masters of Ceremony. Mr. Mohd Nazrul Mohd Amin, Dean (Student Affairs), College of Computing, Informatics and Media, UiTM, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, delivered the inaugural speech.

The lineup of speakers included ICT652 students: Nur Azrawina Binti Ahmad Kontar, who spoke on “International Intellectual Property Issues,” Muhamad Khairul Iman Bin Mohd Khairulanis who presented on “Social Media Ethical Issues,” and Danial Izzat Anwar Bin Abdul Aziz who focused on “Plagiarism Issues.” An interactive Q&A session followed these presentations. Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Abdul Rahim Bin Wan Mohd Isa, Dean (Academic and International), College of Computing, Informatics and Media, UiTM, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, concluded the event with closing remarks.
