Shah Alam, 24th January 2024 – In a riveting professorial lecture held at the Dewan Al-Ghazali (DAG) within the College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Prof. Ts. Dr Haryani Haron, KPPIM’s Assistant Vice Chancellor, delved deep into the intricate world of technology. The lecture, entitled “Duality of Technology: The Metamorphosis of Digital Disruption,” proved to be a captivating exploration of the evolving landscape of digital disruption.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Norjansalika Janom, Head of the KPPIM Postgraduate Studies, set the stage with an introductory remark which provided a personal context and emphasized the significance of the professorial lecture. Prof. Ts. Dr Haryani Haron then proceeded to deliver her lecture, which, among other things, highlighted the transformative impact of digital disruption and how it has reshaped various aspects of our lives. Notably, she shed light on the role of AI language models, such as ChatGPT, and the widespread use of chatbots in education and industries, emphasizing their significance in shaping the future of communication and interaction. Indeed, the lecture was an enlightening exploration of the duality of technology, where human users are the catalysts for change. 

The prestigious event was attended by both industrial and government representatives from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Technology Depository Agency (TDA), Google Malaysia, SAS Institute Sdn. Bhd., Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), MyAIS, Datasonic Group Bhd., Fusionex Group, Lembah Sari Sdn. Bhd., Intelligence Traceability Sdn. Bhd., and Enfrasys Consulting Sdn. Bhd. It also bears witness to the distinguished presence of various esteemed guests, including Prof. Ts. Dr. Nor Hayati Saad, UiTM’s Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Strategy), Prof. Dr Shahriman Zainal Abidin, UiTM’s Assistant Vice-Chancellor (UiTM Global), and Datuk Dr Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor, former Vice-Chancellor of UiTM. This serves as a testament to the timely lecture, which impacted both the academic and the industrial landscape. 

The Professorial Lecture event concluded with Prof. Ts. Dr. Nor Hayati Saad having the honor of presenting the certificate of appreciation to Prof. Ts. Dr Haryani Haron in acknowledgment of the latter’s contributions to academia and the technological landscape through her expertise.
