TOKYO, February 25, 2025 – Five Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) students recently completed a 10-day exchange program in Japan, participating in the 2025 Sakura Science Exchange Program from February 15 to 24.
The program, hosted by Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), brought together students from UiTM, the University of British Columbia (Canada), and National Central University (Taiwan) for an immersive experience in Japanese science, technology, and culture.
“Our students benefited greatly from interacting with researchers from different countries and experiencing Japanese innovation firsthand,” said Dr. Norliana Mohd Abbas, who led the UiTM delegation.
Funded by Japan’s Science and Technology Agency and Ministry of Education, the program focused on fostering international collaboration in production and processing technologies.
Students participated in presentations, laboratory tours, and research exchanges at TUAT and the Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology. They explored advanced machining techniques, textile innovation, and various engineering laboratories.
“These sessions gave students insight into different research methodologies and approaches,” said a UiTM representative.
Beyond academic visits, the program included industrial tours to the Yamanashi Maglev Exhibition Center and the All Nippon Airways Maintenance Hangar, showcasing practical applications of Japanese technology.
The program also incorporated cultural experiences, including visits to Mount Fuji, Hakone, and the Jindai Botanical Garden.
“The Sakura Science Exchange Program successfully connected students from Malaysia, Canada, and Taiwan, providing them with international perspectives and enhanced technical knowledge,” said the UiTM representative.
The experience is expected to foster future collaborative opportunities between UiTM and international institutions, preparing students for a globalized world.
