PUNCAK ALAM, 7 JUNE 2024 – The “We Care We Share” community program, organized by the Centre for Nursing Studies, Faculty of Health Sciences at UiTM Puncak Alam Campus, in collaboration with the Malaysian Orthopaedic Nurses Association (MONA), has achieved notable success.
The program, held at Masjid Kg. Felda Bukit Cherakah, Puncak Alam, Selangor, involved 8 nursing staff and 29 part-time nursing students from UiTM, who interacted with the residents of Kg Bukit Cherakah, Puncak Alam. The theme “We Care We Share” underscores a commitment to delivering comprehensive care to the elderly community, fostering a culture of compassion and sharing while stressing the importance of early health assessment.
The event garnered enthusiastic support from residents, attracting 55 participants between 50 and 75 years of age. The program featured various health-oriented activities, including aerobics, health education on injury prevention and bone care for the elderly, and health screenings by the staff from PKD Kuala Selangor. The health screening encompasses glucose and cholesterol checks, blood pressure, weight and height measurements, and Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations.
Guest speakers, Associate Professor Dr. Mohamed Faizal, Head of the Orthopedic Department at HASA, and Ms. Siti Hajar, Health Information Officer from the Selangor State Health Office, provided enlightening lectures on bone care and elderly health. MONA nurses, Ms Siti Rahimah and Ms Norfarihan, also delivered insightful talks focusing on back pain prevention and management.
The program was officiated by Madam Norhaini Majid, UiTM Nursing Senior Lecturer, who is also an active MONA member. Among the staff of UiTM involved were Associate Professor Dr Zamzaliza as the program advisor, lecturers Madam Noraini and Ms Norfidah as facilitators, and registered nurses, SN Norfadzilah and SN Khadijah from UiTM who also served as program facilitators.
Following the sessions, the program extended its reach with a visitation initiative to the homes of elderly residents surrounding Masjid Felda Bukit Cherakah, providing them with essential care and support. Moreover, there was a complimentary hair-cutting session for older adults and a lucky draw for attendees, further enhancing community engagement.
In conclusion, this program effectively addressed the needs of the local elderly population and successfully achieved its objectives, showcasing the commitment of UiTM Puncak Alam Campus and MONA to serving the community.
