UiTM Student Excels SOA Professional Exam

SHAH ALAM, 18th July 2023 – In a truly remarkable fashion, Muhammad Syauqi Iman bin Shamsul Rijal, from the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Science (CS242) has accomplished an extraordinary feat by passing the Society of Actuaries (SOA) exam for paper Probability (P). Currently in his third year at the College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM), SOA examinations are widely known for their complexity and challenging syllabus. Muhammad Syauqi’s achievement is no small feat as he made intense preparation coupled with strong determination and perseverance.

As part of the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Globally Renowned University (GRU2025) Initiative, students are provided with various training opportunities to become industrial professionals. UiTM, through its College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics (KPPIM), has established an Actuarial Science program that is recognized by professional bodies such as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) from the United Kingdom and the Society of Actuaries (SOA) from the United States of America. In 2019, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Science (CS242) program from KPPIM was granted accreditation from the IFoA and subsequently had a syllabus that resonates with the SOA.

This initiative has been impactful with 42 graduates having successfully passed the SOA exams since 2014. KPPIM’s latest star, Muhammad Syauqi is charting his way in becoming an associate member of the professional body. His success today reflects our students’ excellent knowledge of probability and mathematical sciences and their application to real-world scenarios.

The success of UiTM students passing an actuary professional exam not only showcases excellence in SDG4: Quality Education but can also contribute to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Actuaries are in demand in various sectors as they have the expertise to navigate financial complexities, promote financial stability via responsible decision-making. These skills are essential in fostering a strong and sustainable economy in line with the government’s aspiration of Malaysia Madani.
