15 MARCH 2023: Universiti Teknologi MARA Sabah Branch (UiTMCSH) Tawau Campus has released the results of the February 2023 Examination recently. In the examination, Pre-Diploma students, who were enrolled in the Pre-Higher Education programme made the university proud by achieving a 100% pass rate in the English for Pre-Diploma (ELC030) course, one of the compulsory courses in the programme.
The 228 students, who were mostly from the Bottom 40 (B40) income group, were required to take ELC030 from October 2022 to February 2023, for a duration of 14 weeks. Weekly English language classes were conducted in a hybrid mode, blending classroom learning and online learning. The course assessment was based on four components: two speaking tests, a listening test and a writing assignment. The Pre-Diploma students did not disappoint us but strove hard to complete all the required assessments within the time frame given. The results, therefore, were really the fruit of their efforts in learning English.
Today, we are proud to report that several students who struggled in their ability to communicate in English in the past have shown remarkable improvement in the subject. “What helped me obtain a better result was the way my lecturer taught me. She paid close attention to the topics or skills that I was weak in and took the time to teach me personally. She always encouraged me to keep trying to improve my language ability,” said Mohammad Muzzairi Jasni.
Similarly, Nurfadzlina Mohammad Nursin shared, “I’m still learning to be more confident in speaking English. My English Language lecturer gave me coaching and took the time to explain the topics thoroughly until I understood. She also always checked and corrected my errors until I successfully completed my tasks.” Both students managed to attain Grade B in the ELC030 course, despite obtaining merely a pass in their SPM English Language examination. We are amazed at the phenomenal progress the students have made during their stint of study at UiTM Sabah Branch Tawau Campus.
UiTMCSH Tawau Campus congratulates all its Pre-Diploma students on their success in achieving their academic goal. The impressive results are a testament to the assumption that poor SPM English grades may no longer be a barrier to pursue tertiary education, and the university’s continuous commitment in providing a conducive and supportive learning environment to students.
