This is to expose the students to the best English language skills before they step into secondary school. These skills are expected to give exposure to students to study English more deeply with the help of volunteers from UiTM. Additionally, it is carried out to improve the English skills of primary school students, to provide exposure on how to answer classroom-based exam papers, to encourage UiTM male and female students to venture into volunteering and to help increase the literacy rate in primary schools.
The tutoring programme was carried out for three months from July to October 2022. With the theme of gamification in English learning, the Year 6 students were exposed to fun ways of learning English. They have tried multiple games pertaining to English such as interactive e-card, Kahoot and English podcasts. The gamification of English has given the students a platform to learn English in a modern and positive environment. Since the students are already exposed to online games, it was a matter of activating the students’ previous schemata and gearing it towards enjoyable learning experiences. The students responded really well to the tutoring and managed to score mostly 70% and 86% in their final English test.
