Shah Alam, 27th October 2023 – Exploring The New Frontier in English Language International Seminar was successfully organized by the Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia in collaboration with Universitas Tanjungpura Kalimantan, Indonesia, and the Post Graduate Societies on 27th October 2023 from 8.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m at Academy of Language Studies Auditorium, UiTM Shah Alam. The delegates from Indonesia include esteemed guest Dr. Yohanes Gatot Sutapa and Dr. Regina who will be among the speakers for the seminar. The seminar was held as an effort to navigate through the vast and vibrant landscapes of the English language in postgraduate studies. In addition, to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and establish relationships that cross linguistic and geographical borders.
The first morning session started with a welcoming speech by Prof. Ts. Dr. Janudin Sardi, Dean of Academy of Language Studies, UiTM Shah Alam. The session then proceeded with Prof. Dr. Ismie Roha Mohamed Jais, the first keynote speaker with her speech titled “Emerging Trends in Language Research: Nexus Analysis”. After that, continued with Dr. Y. Gatot Sutapa as the second keynote speaker. The morning session includes a forum by postgraduate students of APB and UNTAN “Challenges as Postgraduate Students”, talks by plenary speaker; Dr. Mohammad Radzi Manap & Dr. Nur Huslinda Che Mat and two Parallel Session: Workshop I: Dr. Mazlin Azizan and Puan Farina Nozakiah Tazijan “Storytelling: A Powerful Tool in Your Postgraduate Journey” and Parallel Session: Workshop II: Dr. Noor Saadah Salleh & Puan Siti Fauziana Zakaria “Delivering High Impact Presentations. The morning session ended with a lunch break before continuing with the second session.
The second session, which started in the evening, starts with a talk titled “From Breakthroughs to Biases: The AI Revolution in Research” from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Fazlin Ramli, the third keynote speaker. Followed by the plenary speaker 3, Dr. Regina: “Effective Digital Communication across Social Class”. The seminar ended with a closing speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayuza Mohamad, Head of Postgraduate Studies, APB.
Most importantly, this seminar has enlightened all parties, especially postgraduates with the speaker’s expertise, cutting-edge research and insights that will broaden horizons and deepen understanding towards the English language. As a result of these collaborative efforts, all parties were provided with countless opportunities to integrate their knowledge with current trends in the field while growing their professional network. It is hoped that our close ties with Universitas Tanjungpura Kalimantan, Indonesia will continue to benefit both parties in the coming years.
