Exploring Cultural Heritage through Scholar outbound programme between Universiti Teknologi MARA and Nanyang Institute of Technology, China

The Agriculture College at Nanyang Institute of Technology, China has recently invited two lecturers from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia as part of the Outbound International Visiting Scholar Program. This program aims to foster teaching collaboration between Nanyang Institute College and UiTM. 

The internationalization program was commenced between 11th  November until 27th  November 2023. Its primary objective is to deliver lectures to students at Agriculture College, Nanyang Institute of Technology.   The two lecturers invited were ChM. Dr. Hussein Hanibah from Centre of Foundation, UiTM Dengkil, who specializes in Chemistry , and Ts Dr. Nur Aliana Hidayah Mohamed from Faculty of Dentistry UiTM, as she specializes in teaching toxicology and infectious diseases.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, both lecturers were also had an opportunity to revise and proposed new curriculum review with greater emphasis on integration of problem-solving and critical thinking skills across their subjects. 

In a recent series of enlightening talks hosted by the Nanyang Agriculture School , the spotlight was turned to Malaysia, a country renowned for its vibrant tapestry of cultures. These talks, delivered by Dr Hussein Hanibah and Dr Nur Aliana shared an immersive journey into the heart of Malaysia’s cultural mosaic with the dynamics multicultural society, addressing both the strengths of its diversity and the challenges of ensuring harmony among different ethnic groups. This comprehensive exploration of Malaysian culture provided audiences worldwide with a deeper appreciation of the nation’s cultural richness and diversity. Photo 7: Dr Aliana was sharing  about Kain Batik, known for its intricate patterns and vibrant colours, which deeply rooted in Malay traditions and reflects various aspects of Malay culture

Photo 8: Dr Hussein was explaining on the common ingredients for a variety of dessert which include coconut milk, palm sugar (gula melaka), rice flour, and tropical fruits like durian and mango. Apart from the sweet desert, Malaysia is rich in cultural and culinary identity of the Malay community with spicy distinctive local  traditional food such as sayur midin goreng and solok lada

Among the guest of honour who participated in the talk include Li Shengto, the dean of School of Animal Husbandry and Medical Engineering, Cheng Lijie, Chief of the Education Section of the Foreign Office, Chef of Foreign Affairs Section of the Foreign Affairs Office, Han Shuai, Foreign teaching assistant, Wang Zhengquan lecturers and students. Participation in the culture day was based on reservation and only 150. Their insights helped to shape international understanding of cultural dynamics, while their experiences abroad enriched the local academic environment with fresh, global perspectives. These international lectures not only elevate the lecturers’ careers but also enhance the reputation of our local academic institutions. The international exposure also opens doors for collaborative research and student exchange programs.
