“Exceptional Success of Postgraduate Students from College of Engineering at PETRONAS CHESS Symposium 2023 Innovation Pitch Competition”

Kuala Lumpur, 6th June 2023 – The PETRONAS CHESS Symposium 2023 witnessed an incredible showcase of talent and innovation in the Oil, Gas, and Energy industry during its highly anticipated Innovation Pitch Competition. The event, organized by PETRONAS, brought together exceptional minds from various fields to present their groundbreaking ideas and solutions. Today, we proudly congratulate all the participants for their remarkable achievements and extend our heartfelt appreciation for their dedication and ingenuity.

Among the outstanding participants, two postgraduate groups from the College of Engineering emerged as top performers, securing prestigious positions in the competition. We commend their exceptional efforts and innovative ideas that have the potential to shape the future of the industry. The group that achieved 2nd place will receive a cash prize of RM800, while the group that clinched 4th place will be awarded RM200.

In the category of New Energy & Sustainability, Dayana Kamaruzaman, under the supervision of Prof Madya Ir Dr Mohamad Hafiz Mamat, captivated the judges with their pitch titled “NT22: Generating electricity from recycled polystyrene material based on zinc oxide triboelectric nanogenerator.” Their innovative approach towards sustainable energy secured them the 2nd place and the accompanying cash prize. This remarkable achievement showcases their dedication to creating a greener future.

In the Additive Manufacturing & Circular Economy category, Thoufeili Bin Taufek and Muhammad Alif Bin Azli, under the guidance of Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr-Ing. Yupiter Harangan Prasada Manurung, demonstrated their commitment to reducing carbon emissions through their pitch titled “Generative Design with Lattice and Numerical Simulation: A Contribution to CO2 Emission Reduction.” Their creative design and simulation techniques earned them a well-deserved 2nd place and the accompanying cash prize.

Another noteworthy achievement in the same category was attained by Keval Prjadhiana and Syaffiq bin Baharrudin, supervised by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr-Ing. Yupiter Harangan Prasada Manurung. Their pitch titled “In developing of Pipe Flange Component Using Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing For Oil And Gas Industries” showcased their expertise in utilizing additive manufacturing techniques for the oil and gas sector. Their remarkable performance earned them 4th place and recognition for their contributions to the circular economy.

The exceptional ideas, dedication, and hard work demonstrated by these students have rightly been acknowledged and rewarded. Their achievements reflect their commitment to pushing boundaries and finding innovative solutions to industry challenges.
