Amidst the evolving landscape of the media and journalism industries, about 60 journalism students from the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS) were given valuable insights in an enlightening ‘Coffee Talk’ which took place as part of the ‘The Journey 2.0: Among Us’ program which was held at the faculty on July 8.
Two esteemed alumni of the journalism program, TV3 Executive Multimedia Journalist, Khairul Rizuan Azizan, and Producer and Screenwriter, Nellhanan Mansor, provided firsthand knowledge and experiences to students from various semesters, highlighting the increased challenges faced by the media and journalism industries today.
The media practitioners emphasized the necessity for future journalists to fortify themselves psychologically and physically before embarking on their career paths.
The one-day event, organized by the journalism club, Journalism Society (JSOC), aimed to expose the journalism students to the real-world scenarios they will encounter in their careers. Students had the opportunity to engage in a casual two-hour session where they could freely interact with the alumni and inquire about potential career opportunities within the media industry.
Also present at the event, the coordinator of the Journalism program, Azlinawati Ngainon, the JSOC advisor, Fadzillah Aishah Ismail, and the senior lecturer in journalism program, Khairun Nizam Mohammad Yusuff.
Apart from the informative ‘Coffee Talk’ session, ‘The Journey 2.0: Among Us’ program offered various engaging activities. Through games and the Annual General Meeting, students had the chance to bond with one another and meet the new JSOC committee members.
This well-rounded program not only provided students with a broader perspective on the journalism field but also facilitated networking and strengthened the sense of community within the journalism program.
Overall, the event served as an empowering platform for future journalists, equipping them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and connections to thrive in the face of today’s industry challenges.
