Collaborative Synergy between UiTM and UNIKOM in Organizing Hybrid Webinar and Student Carnival

Shah Alam, 24th June 2023 – UiTM continues to make its mark on the global stage through a synergistic collaboration with its MoU Strategic Partner, Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), in organizing the “Bridging Technologies Amongst Urban Folks and Undergraduate Carnival” program.

The jointly organized program between the College of Computing, Informatics and Media (KPPIM), UiTM Shah Alam, and UNIKOM took place in a hybrid format; physically at Dewan Kuliah 2, Al-Khawarizmi Complex, KPPIM UiTM Shah Alam, and virtually via Microsoft Teams and the official KPPIM YouTube channel :School of Computing & Math Sc KPPIM UiTM Official. The program which also served as the closing ceremony for KPPIM SULAM 2023 was officiated by Prof. Ts Dr Haryani Haron, KPPIM Deputy Vice-Chancellor . This collaborative partnership aims to strengthen knowledge and cooperation between the two universities while fostering strong synergy in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) research and knowledge sharing.

According to Prof. Ts Dr Haryani Haron, “The SULAM KPPIM 2023 program presents a deeper meaning with UNIKOM’s involvement as a strategic partner. In line with the Globally Renowned University UiTM 2025 initiative, it opens opportunities for sharing innovative and latest knowledge and data”. She further added, “such programs are positive steps that bring wider understanding and appreciation on the importance of strategic collaborations with partners and the local community”.

The program began with a lecture session by Mr. Syed Azmi Alhabshi. He is a well-known pharmacist who has founded several social initiatives such as Persatuan Untuk Anak Kita (PUAKPayung), advisor to the Kumpulan Cerita Orang Gagal and a volunteer for the Geriatric Ward at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Based on his experience as a community influencer, he emphasized the importance and the need for technology within a community and highlighted that “something that seems impossible to learn can be learned with the presence of a community”.

The webinar session continued with a sharing session by Mr. Irawan Afrianto, Senior Lecturer (Lektor Kepala) from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), with the topic “Connecting Urban Communities: Empowering Lives through Technology.” Among his sharing points were the challenges faced by urban communities, particularly in Indonesia, but technology as simple as smartphones can strengthen urban communities, and serve as a technological solution to transportation issues.

The webinar session also witnessed the participation of industry representative, where Mr. Calvin Lim, Business Development Manager from Krenovator, explained the benefits provided by the Krenovator Platform in enhancing graduates’ skills to learn and adapt to new technological skills such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science and many more.

An “Undergraduate Carnival” was also held which saw various exhibition booths on Cyberbullying, Identity Theft, and Cryptography. Educational games such as Quizizz and Word Search were also organized.

With over 230 attendees physically and virtually, the webinar and carnival were highly successful. The program was also graced by the presence of the Flat Mawar Cempaka community, led by Mr. Salehuddin Ismail, the Joint Management Body (JMB) Chairman, and Mr. Isa Jusoh, the Neighborhood Watch (KRT) Chairman.

The “Bridging Technologies Amongst Urban Folks and Undergraduate Carnival” program jointly organized by UiTM and UNIKOM is part of the SULAM KPPIM 2023 initiatives. This initiative aims to enhance communication, provide access to information and resources, and encourage cooperation and innovation between the two parties. Overall, such activities not only demonstrate how technology can bring positive impact to communities but also support the aspirations of Sustainable Development Goals Four and Eleven, namely Quality Education and Sustainable Cities and Communities. They also align with the government’s aspiration to build a Civilized Society.
