In February of 2024, the Academy of Language Studies or Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB) UiTM Perak in association with Research, Industrial Linkages, Community & Alumni Network or Bahagian Penyelidikan, Jaringan Industri, Masyarakat dan Alumni (PJIM&A) organized a research workshop at the Smart Classroom in UiTM Tapah campus. The workshop aims to encourage the APB lecturers to produce high impact and quality publications. Puan Sheema Liza Idris the Ketua Pusat Pengajian (KPP) of APB UiTM Perak, En Mohd Syahir Rani the Coordinator of Tapah campus, Puan Nur Fatima Wahida Mohd Nasir the APB PJIM&A coordinator along with the APB research committee had invited experts in the field of research to share their insights and invaluable knowledge on research and publication.
Among the guest speakers were Ts. Dr. Pradeep Isawasan, Dr. Nor Ashikin Manan, Pn. Sheema Liza Idris, and Dr. Rafidah Abdul Karim. After each guest speaker had given their talk, a hands-on session was conducted to enable all the APB lecturers to fully understand and apply what they had learnt.
The first guest speaker Ts. Dr. Pradeep Isawasan had given a talk entitled ‘Empowering Research AI Tools and Tactics for Crafting Your Next Research’. Dr Pradeep had explained about Generative AI, key technologies, its application, Generative AI in research writing, and the challenges and ethical considerations in using AI. The following speaker Dr. Nor Ashikin Manan had presented a talk on ‘Structure of Manuscript Article for Suitable Journal’. In her talk she delved into the process of a research project, the list of journals indexed in MyCite and Scopus, the manuscript structure, methodology, and the theoretical framework and so forth. Puan Sheema Liza Idris the Ketua Pusat Pengajian (KPP) of APB UiTM Perak was the next guest speaker who gave an enlightening talk on ‘Using AI Tools for Research’ which covers aspects such as the numerous AI tools available for different purposes: literature review and discovery; writing and editing; data analysis and visualization; citation management and reference formatting; best practices and considerations. Last but not least, Dr. Rafidah Abdul Karim gave a talk entitled ‘Using Technology in Research Methodology and Instrumentation’. In her talk, she discussed about quantitative data collection methods, quasi-experimental design, research instruments, and data analysis.
The APB research workshop had fulfilled its aims of encouraging lecturers to produce high quality publications. Before the end of the workshop, all of the APB lecturers of UiTM Perak had submitted their drafts and are working hard to fulfill their targets before the year ends.
