UiTM Secures Place in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026: 20 Subjects Ranked Across Five Broad Disciplines

25 March 2026, SHAH ALAM – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is recognised in the QS World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject 2026, with 20 subjects earning a spot across all five broad disciplines, announced today. This year’s edition saw 1,908 institutions ranked globally, with 161 new entrants compared to the previous year. 

In a notable milestone, UiTM is now listed in all five broad subject areas for the first time, following the debut of Natural Sciences in the 451-500 band, completing its presence across all major disciplines assessed by QS. Several broad subject areas also recorded improvements: Arts and Humanities rose significantly from the 401-450 band to 344 globally, while Social Sciences and Management improved to =362. Engineering and Technology also advanced to =383 from the 451-500 band, while Life Sciences and Medicine maintained its position at 501-550. These results underscore UiTM’s continued strength in delivering quality teaching, impactful research, and industry-relevant education across disciplines. 

Overall, seven subjects improved their positions, namely Art and Design (101-150), Pharmacy and Pharmacology (201-250), Chemical Engineering (351-400), Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering (351-400), Medicine (451-500), Chemistry (451-500)and Materials Sciences (351-400), reflecting UiTM’s steady progress in enhancing academic quality and research impact. Another highlight of this year’s ranking is the first-time inclusion of two new subjects: Environmental Sciences (501-550) and Biological Sciences (651-700), marking new additions to UiTM’s list of recognised subjects. 

UiTM also continues to demonstrate strong, consistent performance across several key disciplines. Petroleum Engineering has remained in the top 150 globally for six consecutive years since 2021, accentuating the university’s sustained research strength and innovation in this field. Other subjects that maintained their positions include Business and Management Studies, Economics and Econometrics, Education, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systemsand Mathematics. 

UiTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said the recognition is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the blessed month of Shawwal, a time that reflects gratitude, unityand renewed spirit. He added that the achievement highlights the collective efforts of Warga UiTM in driving excellence in academia. As the university advances its strategic direction under UiTM2030, UiTM will continue to strengthen its global reputation and nurture highly competitive Bumiputera professionals.
