Subang Jaya, 19th Oct 2024 – The Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) Students’ Saturday (MIIDSS) brought a wave of opportunity, collaboration, and achievement to Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya this past October. Hosted by Taylor’s University, this annual event gathered Interior Architecture students from across Malaysia, fostering an environment of creativity, community, and professional development.
MIIDSS 2024, themed Sapotlah Lokal!!, encouraged students to celebrate and incorporate locally sourced materials, supporting regional industries and artisans. This theme fostered a design approach rooted in community identity, while also establishing meaningful connections between the students and local suppliers, artisans, and businesses.
For UiTM Puncak Alam’s Interior Architecture students, MIIDSS served as an invaluable platform for experiential learning. By engaging in real-world design challenges and networking with industry professionals, students were able to deepen their understanding of design principles and industry practices. The event offered a hands-on experience that expanded their creativity and problem-solving abilities, preparing them to navigate the dynamic, collaborative environments they will encounter in their future careers.
This year, 51 students represented UiTM Puncak Alam, collaborating closely with faculty mentors who provided guidance throughout the competitions. From conceptual development to technical execution, the mentorship strengthened students’ skills, leading to impressive results. The awards spanned categories from commercial design to furniture design, highlighting the breadth of talent within the program. Each mentor-student interaction not only honed technical skills but also reinforced the values of teamwork and perseverance.
UiTM Puncak Alam’s strong performance has elevated its standing in the design community, reflecting positively on the faculty’s commitment to nurturing talent. These accomplishments showcase the university as a hub for creative excellence, enhancing its reputation among industry leaders and future collaborators. As MIIDSS continues to grow, it amplifies UiTM’s dedication to producing industry-ready graduates who are attuned to both local and global design landscapes.
The 2025 MIIDSS will be hosted by SEGI University, marking another opportunity for UiTM Puncak Alam to make its mark. With support from upper management and faculty, UiTM’s students are ready to continue their journey of innovation and achievement, carrying the torch of excellence forward.
