SHAH ALAM, 1 APRIL 2022 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Persatuan Pencinta Teknologi Hijau Malaysia, also known as Malaysia Green Technology Society (MGTS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at UiTM Shah Alam.
The MoU provides a platform for UiTM and MGTS to cooperate on a wide range of green issues and share expertise through research, innovation, science and technology.
UiTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor said that this partnership will allow UiTM through its Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI), a centre of excellence (CoE) from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to further develop novel approaches in smart manufacturing technologies, and provide vigorous professional trainings, as well as consultation and certification suited for up-to-date industrial needs. This ensures the university’s research and innovations remain impactful and are commercially viable to the industry and community.
MGTS Chairman, Dr. M. Chandra Sagaran stated that as a registered body with HRDCorp, MGTS provides training and consultancy related to green technology and sustainable environment owing to the rapid development in Malaysia. In addition, MGTS holds strong networking to mutually map UiTM and MGTS in global arena.
This partnership opens doors to advancing sustainability and new knowledge as well as enriching the capabilities of the university and national organisation when dealing with local issues. There are plans to set up a panel to look into green technology index for buildings and industries to be “star” rated as how its done for hotels, developing research on EV and solar to benefit the lower income and rural communities as well as industry water pollution prevention and water harvesting innovation.
