Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohammad Huzaimy Jusoh, the Principal Advisor of the ASEAN Nanosatellite (ASEANSAT) Project from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia was recently awarded the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Philippines Grant.
The USD40000 grant was awarded for the ASEANSAT Nanosatellite Project recently on 14 June 2020. The project was initiated by the team from the Center for Satellite Communication, Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), UiTM to build a 1U (10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm cube) Nanosatellite in UiTM in collaboration with UPHSD, Pensmith STEM International School, Thailand and Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan.
This Nanosatellite will be the first locally built Nanosatellite and the first ASEAN Nanosatellite to be launched by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to outer space in early 2022. This Nanosatellite project also will be great a platform for researchers and students from the collaborative countries to be exposed to the state-of-the-art approach in lean satellite development project.
UiTM’s Vice Chancellor Emeritus Prof Dato Ir Dr Azraai Kassim in his opening speech at the UiTM Academic Conference in late 2019 exclaimed that “We have proven that we are the first university in Malaysia to launch the Nanosatellite to space, but the challenge will be to ensure that we are still number one in Nanosatellite research and development in the country”.
It is hoped that the project would provide a great impact to the partnering countries. Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohammad Huzaimy Jusoh’s area of expertise is on nanosatellite development and his publications can be viewed via orcid link https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8326-9491.
