United We Thrive: Department of Rehabilitation Medicine UiTM Hosts Team-Building Event

On May 17, 2024, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine UiTM and Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah UiTM hosted a one-day team-building event at Dewan Serbaguna SPI, UiTM Puncak Alam Campus. The objective of this event was to foster and rejuvenate the spirit of teamwork and collaboration among department members, essential for delivering holistic care to patients undergoing rehabilitation.

In the multidisciplinary field of rehabilitation medicine, effective treatment hinges on the coordinated efforts of a diverse team, including physicians, physical, occupational and speech and language therapists, rehabilitation nurses, and other team members. Each member plays an important role in ensuring the provision of comprehensive patient care. To ensure the success of this coordinated approach, an efficient teamwork dynamic is indispensable, akin to the saying, “there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’”.

The event commenced with inspiring speeches by Dr Nor Faridah Ahmad Roslan, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Fazah Akhtar Hanapiah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM. Their addresses set a positive tone and warmed up the participants for the day’s activities.

En Yamin Kamis, a certified NLP trainer and lecturer from KPPIM UiTM Puncak Perdana, led the day’s program. He began with a session on mind-setting and an introduction to the NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) module. En Yamin Kamis then engaged participants in various team-building activities designed to reinforce the main themes of his presentation.

During one of the activities, participants were asked to choose 3 words that best represent their core values as a team. The words chosen were “ceria” (cheerfulness), “Ikhlas” (sincerity), and “bersemangat” (enthusiasm). The participants vowed to approach their daily tasks in providing rehabilitation treatment with cheerfulness, sincerity, and enthusiasm.

The event concluded with a gift-exchange among participants, a gesture that underscored the spirit of camaraderie. In a delightful surprise, Dr Nor Faridah contributed an additional gift for everyone, adding a personal touch to the day’s proceedings.

Overall, the event was a resounding success, reinforcing the importance of teamwork within the department. The event’s activities and the shared experiences will undoubtedly contribute to a more cohesive and effective team, ultimately benefiting the patients they serve.
