Shah Alam, 10th December 2024 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has upheld its commitment to sustainability, positioning in the top 34.7% among 1,751 universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, marking its third consecutive appearance in this prestigious ranking. Compared to the previous year, UiTM achieved an 8% increase in its percentile and secured the 151st position in Asia in this global ranking. The 2025 edition recorded a notable increase in participation, with 348 additional institutions joining compared to 1,403 in the previous year. This included 29 from Malaysia and a total of 661 from across Asia. The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability ranking measures three major categories, namely Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance.
This year, UiTM has notably improved its ranking in Environmental Impact, moving up from =627 to =595. This improvement is primarily driven by significant score increases of 43% in Environmental Research and 32% in Environmental Education indicators. This accomplishment underscores UiTM’s excellence in delivering impactful education in environmental sustainability by embedding sustainability principles into its academic programmes, research efforts, and community initiatives while cultivating a research environment aligned with key UN SDGs. UiTM also improved its Social Impact score, particularly in the Employability and Outcomes indicator, rising from =637 to =613. This reflects the university’s commitment to creating employment opportunities, building its reputation, and fostering research collaborations with industry. Additionally, UiTM achieved scores above the median based on the global distribution across all categories. Overall, UiTM is ranked =607 out of 1,751 institutions globally this year and holds 11th place among the 29 Malaysian institutions included in the rankings.
