SHAH ALAM, 13 December – UiTM has affirmed once again its continuous commitment to sustainability as it finds itself ranked in the UI GreenMetric (UIGM) World University Rankings 2022.From the results released yesterday, this year UiTM is ranked 128 out of 1050 universities, which is a jump of 22 places from its 150th position out of 956 universities last year. Locally, UiTM attained the 6th position which is an improvement from its 9th position last year.
The UIGM World University Rankings was initiated by Universitas Indonesia to measure campus sustainability efforts through six clusters: Setting and Infrastructure, Waste, Water, Energy, Education and Research, and Transportation. In compliance with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) introduced by the United Nations, UiTM strategises its sustainability efforts towards the pursuit of becoming a Smart Campus by 2025 as outlined in its 2025 Strategic Plan. The UiTM Green Centre (UGC) and the Institute of Sustainability and Biodiversity (IBSD) together with UiTM’s internal Expert Task Force across faculties and multidisciplinary experts are among the university’s key drivers for this pursuit.
“With this announcement, we can see that UiTM continues its trend this year to make great progress towards becoming a Globally Renowned University by 2025,” says the Vice-Chancellor of UiTM, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor. “Around this time last year, Shah Alam was hit by unprecedented floods that affected many of our staff and students, and we have since then multiplied our efforts and commitment towards sustainability. I am proud to see that our commitment has been recognised across the board, including this UIGM World University Rankings result this year.”
