KUALA LUMPUR, 14th July 2023 – The UiTM-Maybank Engagement Session 2023, marked its first successful event at Menara Maybank, Kuala Lumpur. A total of 100 participants comprising UiTM Alumni at Maybank, academicians and students, gathered and participated in a three-hour event which served as an avenue for the academic industry to reconnect and make new connections. The event commenced with a welcoming speech by Datuk Nora Abd. Manaf, Group Chief Human Capital Officer, Maybank. Steered by the theme of “Maybank 3I’s”, the event aims to provide the university and industry community with a space that connects and empowers the UiTM Alumni (i.e., Maybankers) and UiTM Faculty members to recognise their potential and voice their ideas. Most importantly, the program enables the students to gain practical insight from industry experience.
The UiTM Alumni x Maybank 3I’s is the first academic-industry event that is initiated by the CEO@faculty program participants from UiTM, Dr. Syeliya Md Zaini, Faculty of Accountancy, UiTM Puncak Alam, and Dr. Nurul Hidayana Mohd Noor, Faculty of Administrative and Policy Studies, UiTM Seremban. The UiTM Alumni x Maybank 3I’s is an academic-industry event filled with engagement activities where the participants will have the opportunity in all areas relating to graduate employability, learning and development of talent. This event is the first-of-its-kind to provide a platform for Maybank and UiTM to showcase their substantial partnership initiatives and activities, and some insights on talent development.
Highlights of the event were a forum session with Datuk Nora Abd. Manaf and Prof. Dr. Mohamad Abdullah Hariri, UiTM Deputy Vice Chancellor, Industry, Community and Alumni Network, on the topic ‘Bridging the Skills Gap Towards Sustainable Workforce’ topic. The highlights of the event did not stop there as UiTM announced the conferment of an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Accountancy to Datuk Nora Abd. Manaf. The handover of the appointment letter was presented by Prof. Dr. Haslinda Yusoff, Dean of Faculty of Accountancy.
“The path towards success is sometimes filled with multiple encounters of failure. But it is through these failures that we learn and improve. We cannot do it alone. In this journey, it’s important to reach out, to collaborate with those whose skills and experiences complement yours. This very idea is at the heart of why we are all here today. We recognise the strength of diverse perspectives in bridging the gap between academia and industry, especially in our rapidly changing world.”
Further, Datuk Nora Abd. Manaf emphasized, “Indeed, at Maybank, we are driven by the belief that growth and learning are two sides of the same coin. Every employee, no matter their level, has the chance to upskill and reskill and explore new opportunities for development. Investing in our employee’s growth and development reflects our commitment to ensuring that ‘no one is left behind,’ signifying our alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We’ve invested in state-of-the-art learning and development programmes thoughtfully curated to meet individual career aspirations while ensuring that our people stay relevant and future-ready.”
Additionally, further discussion between UiTM and Maybank has enabled both parties to agree on upcoming activities with regard to UiTM alumni, such as zakat contribution among UiTM alumni at Maybank and etc. The event continued its highlights with several focus group engagements, catch-up activities and sharing sessions between Maybank representatives and UiTM lecturers and students. This is a great program to energize UiTM and Maybank engagement. It has met our intention to outreach and acknowledge our alumni achievement at Maybank.
