KUALA LUMPUR, 22 March 2022 – Dr Nur Izzati Jamalludin from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) College of Creative Arts has won the Culture and Creativity Award 2022 at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2021-2022. Organised by the British Council, this event celebrated change-makers in local society who have been greatly impacted by their experience studying in the UK.

Fifteen finalists were shortlisted in recognition for their talent in four categories namely Science and Sustainability, Culture and Creativity, Social Action, and Business and Innovation. The event was held on 17 March 2022 at the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Charles Hays, stated that it was wonderful to see Malaysians benefit from UK education, and pursue great career success. He also added that all the finalists have shown themselves to be leaders and trailblazers, making a difference in their profession and community.

A lecturer from the Department of Music Business, Conservatory of Music Studies at UiTM College of Creative Arts, Dr Nur Izzati did her doctorate at King’s College London, under the supervision of Dr Katherine Schofield. She has a deep interest in the music traditions of northern peninsular Malaysia, especially on Mek Mulung, a dance drama based in Kampung Wang Tepus Jitra Kedah. Dr. Nur Izzati continues to advocate the region`s music and expand her expertise to include performing arts medicine. She said, “I hope my work empowers the youth in the arts to change the lives of others for the better, and for them to understand their potential to exercise the ‘human’ in today’s reliance on technology”.

Dr. Nur Izzati currently teaches an array of subjects including, Music in International Marketplace, Malaysian Music, History of Western Music, and Keyboard Methods. Her latest project is a book publication of her academic research on Mek Mulung that is forthcoming this year under a grant awarded by the National Department of Culture and Arts, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and published with The National Department of Culture and Arts and UiTM Press.
