LONDON, 18th July 2023 – Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) through the College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM) successfully visited Education Malaysia, London. The delegation was led by Prof. Ts Dr Haryani Haron, Assistant Vice Chancellor KPPIM. Education Malaysia London was represented by Mr Lukman Zulkifly, Education Attache (Administration and Finance), Pn. Alia Nabila Alias, Education Attache (Student Affairs) and Pn. Maizatul Izawati Che Ambi, (Assistant Accountant). Also in attendance were Assoc. Prof. Dr Ahmad Zia Ul – Saufie Mohamad Japeri, Head of School of Mathematical Sciences, Dr Sofianita Mutalib and Dr Nurain Ibrahim from KPPIM.
In the meeting, Prof. Ts Dr Haryani shared the goals of UiTM’s academic visit to various UK universities. It was also a great opportunity to highlight UiTM’s success in having its Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science program accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). IFoA is the UK’s only chartered professional body that regulates and oversees actuarial education of its worldwide members. UiTM is one of the prestigious local universities accredited by IFoA with five modules exemption. Moving forward, KPPIM is now working hard in obtaining accreditation from the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) London for Master of Science (Applied Statistics) and Master of Science (Data Science) programmes through this academic visit.
The Education Malaysia London representatives voiced their strong support to this endeavour. They also strongly encourage collaboration activities which may potentially lead to student and staff mobility as well as twinning programmes once UiTM and UK universities have similar curriculum.
UiTM academic visit to UK universities is part of an effort to develop UiTM’s Globally Renowned University (GRU2025) initiative through close collaboration with other universities to improve subject ranking in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Data Science. The visit also fosters strategic alliances aligning with SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals. In the era of IR4.0, global collaboration is crucial for society’s progress through exchanges of best practices and digital transformation which promotes the objectives of SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. The objectives of the visit also holistically align with the government’s aspiration of Malaysia Madani.
