International Collaborative Teaching Webinar: Current Trends in IT for Development

The Centre for Innovative Delivery & Learning Development (CIDL), a division of the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), is actively promoting the implementation of the Collaborative Teaching initiative across the university. This plan aligns with the Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint (2015-2025), the High Impact Educational Practices (HIEPs) under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the UiTM 2025 Strategic Plan, and Education 5.0@UiTM. The main goal of this initiative is to improve student’s learning experiences and encourage a meeting point of diverse areas of expertise. The implementation of collaborative teaching involves teamwork in one of three key areas: (i) content development, (ii) delivery, or (iii) assessment.

The “International Collaborative Teaching Webinar: Current Trends in IT for Development,” as part of the Information Technology and Global Development (ICT754) course in the Master of Science in Information Technology academic programme, was recently hosted at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The webinar was organized by the School of Computing Sciences, College of Computing, Informatics and Media at UiTM. The event took place on 27 May 2023 and was conducted via Microsoft Teams at 11 am (MYT). The delivery approach incorporated collaboration with an International Guest Speaker and was moderated by Professor Ts. Dr. Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Mohd Isa from the School of Computing Sciences, College of Computing, Informatics and Media at UiTM.

An esteemed International Guest Speaker, Associate Professor Dr. Ir. Yohannes Kurniawan, the Dean of the School of Information Systems at Bina Nusantara University (BINUS) in Jakarta, Indonesia, was featured in the webinar. His presentation, “Current Trends in IT for Development: Emerging Trends, Technologies, and Applications,” offered comprehensive insights into the topic. During the Q&A session, students actively engaged with the International Guest Speaker, utilizing this occasion to gain valuable knowledge and perspectives from a seasoned expert in the field of Information Technology.

The webinar, as part of the Information Technology and Global Development (ICT754) course within the Master of Science in Information Technology curriculum, enhanced student enrichment and strengthened the execution of educational activities. The collaboration with the International Guest Speaker aims to elevate current pedagogical methods, ensuring alignment with the ongoing developments in Information Technology.

In summary, the execution of the Collaborative Teaching Initiative, which includes International Guest Speakers at UiTM, promises significant benefits for students, offering opportunities to learn from experienced professionals and stay abreast of the latest developments in the information technology field. This initiative marks a significant advancement for UiTM and the wider Malaysian higher education landscape, demonstrating a commitment to providing students with the most meaningful and relevant learning experiences possible.
