Interior Architecture Design Excursion, Singapore 2023

SINGAPORE, 24th – 26th of May 2023 – The Design Excursion trip to Singapore spanned a duration of 3 days and 2 nights. It involved a total of 48 students and four lecturers from the Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Hons) programme, College of Built Environment, UiTM Cawangan Selangor, Kampus Puncak Alam. The trip was set up to correspond with the Design Project 1 module for the March – August 2023 semester. The purpose of the trip is to broaden the students’ perspectives through exposing them to the history, culture, global visual aesthetics, and communication practices of a foreign country, all of which contribute to the field of design.

The enquiry and documentation processes are the key goals of this excursion; the primary purpose is to explore and investigate the art, architecture, and interior design of the place of interest. As part of student preparation for lifelong learning, students who additionally opt for an exploratory approach will not only increase their exposure to real-world situations, but they will also be encouraged to demonstrate self-assurance and understanding of their own capabilities. The contemporary design of Singapore places an enormous value on sustainability and features a growing variety of examples of the incorporation of verdant landscapes into skyscrapers. Since Singapore possesses such a humid climate, green building and airflow are of utmost importance when it comes to the nations architectural design. Students took the opportunity to observe their own culture and lifestyle and how it influences their artistic methods from the beginning of the course to comprehend the process, space, and finding opportunities associated with conceptualizing, developing, and branding their own product. Students identified similarities and differences in the characteristics of art, culture, and architecture at the same period. The primary goal is to get an understanding of the complexities of community and their relation to the surrounding environment, individual traits, and a sense of place. They investigate both fictional and non-fictional tales, take notes on the tangible and intangible elements, and then proceed to construct a creative visual narrative that will reveal the story’s distinctive personality.

Jewel @ Changi Airport, Parkview Square, Marina Bay Sands, National Gallery, Marina Barrage, Sustainable Gallery, and Art Science Museum are among of the places that are visited during this trip. In addition to sense of place of mentioned places above, the students participated in an International Company Visitation at Space Factor Ptd. Ltd. Mr. Eric, the company’s founder, shared his knowledge of the Interior Design Process, as well as the schematics and procedures that apply internationally. He also provided the students with some advice that is relevant to be adopted by them for their future industry experience over the following semester.
