Innovative Educators of Academy of Language Studies (APB), UiTM Perlis Branch Showcase Their Expertise at i-VISION 2021

International Virtual Symposium on Innovation and ELT 2021 (i-VISION 2021) was organised by Darul Aman English Language Learning and Teaching Association (DELTA) on 13 and 14 December 2021. The theme for i-VISION 2021 was “Enhancing the Dynamics of Teaching through Innovation: Reinforcing Impactful Delivery”. i-VISION 2021 invited selected presenters who were award-winning innovators to highlight their innovations and share their expertise.

Mr. Zanurin Mohamad Safar; President of DELTA and Chairman of i-VISION 2021, firmly believed the knowledge and experiences of the presenters on ESL would benefit and guide the participants of i-VISION. The selected presenters from Academy of Language Studies (APB), UiTM Perlis Branch at i-VISION 2021 were Dr. Latisha Asmaak Shafie, Associate Prof. Dr Naginder Kaur d/o Surjit Singh, Ms. Huzaifah Abdul Hamid, Ms. Norlizawati Ghazali, Ms. Nur Fairuz Wahida Ibrahim and Ms. Yang Salehah Abdullah Sani.

Dr. Latisha Asmaak Shafie; Head of Study Centre, Academy of Language Studies (APB), UiTM Perlis Branch, acted as a panellist for the forum Nurturing Innovation Culture among ESL Educators in a VUCA World. She shared the platform with an award-winning educator, Dr Mohd Sirhajwan Idek, Head of Research and Innovation, Kolej Vokasional Keningau. Dr. Mohd Sirhajwan is an alumnus of UiTM. The forum was elegantly moderated by Ms. Noor Hayati Abdullah, Deputy President of DELTA and a retired educator. In a one-hour forum, the panellists emphasised the importance of an innovation culture for educators to thrive in a VUCA World. They also shared strategies to start, sustain and nurture the innovation culture. The panellists urged the audience to innovate in transdisciplinary innovations.

On the first day of i- VISION 2021, Huzaifah Abdul Hamid and her team members (Nur Fairuz Wahida Ibrahim, Yang Salehah Abdullah Sani, Norlin Shuhaime and Nor Atikah Husna Ahmad Nasir) presented their innovation entitled Running Meet: Run for Your English. Their innovation is a new unique virtual race in which students compete in groups to complete objectives assigned at seven different checkpoints.

On the second day, Associate Prof. Dr Naginder Kaur d/o Surjit Singh and Norlizawati Ghazali highlighted their innovation entitled Realising SDG 2030: Creativity and Innovation in ELT with TED Talks. Their innovation focuses on Goal 12 by instilling good consumerism practices in the ELT classroom.

The participation of these innovative educators of Academy of Language Studies (APB), UiTM Perlis Branch were the result of the MoU between Universiti Teknologi MARA and Darul Aman English Language Learning and Teaching Association (DELTA). The MoU was signed on 28th October 2021. It is hoped that more educators will be given more opportunities to share their innovations in future collaborative opportunities. These opportunities will enhance innovation culture, visibility, research and internationalisation of UiTM Perlis Branch.
