KUALA LUMPUR, 20-21 OCTOBER 2023– The construction management students of the College of Built Environment (CBE) at UiTM Shah Alam have marked a successful participation in the annual CIDB CIOB Youth Arena Convention Malaysia (YACM) 2023. This two-day event, jointly organized by TAR UMT and UiTM, saw the enthusiastic involvement of numerous universities, including Taylors University, USM, Herriot Watt University, University of Reading, UTHM, UTM, UNISEL, and INTI. The event unfolded at the CIDB Convention Centre, commencing with a welcoming address by Ts Ng Teck Wei, the organizing chairman.
The program commenced with an ice-breaking session to foster camaraderie among participants, followed by engaging group activities. The session followed by presentations on ‘Innovative Construction Techniques for Sustainable Infrastructure’ and ‘Building for Health and Well-being.’ The day concluded with a talent night, ‘Tomorrow’s Leader Night,’ where representatives from universities showcased their talents under the overarching theme of sustainability.
On the second day, the opening ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including Ts. Ho Chee Leong, President of CIOB Malaysia, Datuk Seri (Dr) Michael Yam Kong Choy, Immediate Past President of The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), a representative on behalf of Chief Executive of CIDB Malaysia, Ts Dr Julitta Yunus (UiTM), and Ts Ng Teck Wei (TAR UMT). The day featured the presentation of the CIOB Malaysia Best Student Award, followed by presentation on ‘Promoting Gender Equality in Construction’ and discussion of Industrial Forum on ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): Shaping the Future of Construction’. The event continued with participants’ project showcases and interactive games.
In a fitting culmination, a closing ceremony was held to celebrate the event’s accomplishments, including a prize presentation to the winners. The CIDB CIOB YACM 2023 received commendable support and commitment from various academic institutions, a testament to their dedication to fostering a dynamic and supportive environment, empowering young professionals to excel and contribute significantly to the construction industry.
