In an effort to encourage health and work-life balance, Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB), UiTM, initiated the ‘Brisk Walk Programme’, aligning with the Ministry of Health’s Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat. This effort underscores the importance of physical activity amidst the academic staff’s demanding schedule across UiTM’s campuses in Shah Alam, Puncak Alam, Puncak Perdana, and Sungai Buloh.
Understanding the necessity of maintaining optimal health for managing the rigors of academic and administrative duties, APB has successfully conducted the ‘Brisk Walk Programme’ four times, with the latest session held on Thursday, March 7, 2024. The programme was previously organized on February 21, February 29, and March 6, 2024, exclusively for administrative workers.
The shift towards sedentary work and learning environments, accentuated by prolonged hours in front of computer screens, has raised concerns about the health implications of such lifestyles. Recognising this, APB tailored the ‘Brisk Walk Programme’ not only as a means to foster team bonding but also as a vital intervention to encourage a shift towards more active living habits among its staff. The initiative has been met with enthusiasm and positive feedback, contributing significantly to improving the happiness index (PI096) among participants.
It serves as a practical reminder of the joys and benefits of integrating simple physical activities, like brisk walking, into daily routines. Ultimately, this ongoing commitment by the Akademi Pengajian Bahasa to prioritize the health and happiness of its staff through such programmes underlines the faculty’s dedication to fostering a balanced and fulfilling work environment. As more sessions are planned, the ‘Brisk Walk Programme’ is set to become a cornerstone of APB’s culture, contributing to a healthier, more engaged, and more productive academic community.
