The Academy of Language Studies (APB), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pahang, Malaysia has successfully conducted a collaborative teaching webinar with Universitas Muhammadiah Purwerojo, Central Java, Indonesia on the 21st May 2022. The webinar involved 116 students from UiTM Pahang and UMPWR. Eight lecturers from both the English Language Department of UMPWR and Academy of Language Studies UiTM Pahang have served as guest speakers.
This collaboration aims to give exposure on workplace communication to both students from UiTM Pahang and UMPWR. It was initiated by Dr. Tengku Intan Suzila T.S. (UiTM) and Dr Tusino (UMPWR). Dr. Tengku Nazatul Shima of Academy of Language Studies UiTM Raub has acted as the host of the webinar. This event has also fulfilled the requirement needed for KPI activity under an MoU. The topic “English for Workplace Communication” was chosen in conjunction to ELC270 syllabus and its universality which is suitable to be shared among the targeted audience.
The esteemed guest speakers have splendidly imparted their knowledge on the subject which includes:
– The fundamentals of effective communication (using SWOT analysis &STAR approach)
– Successful oral presentations at the workplace
– The importance of intercultural communication at the workplace
– Visual aids as a medium of communication at the workplace
– Psychological communicative competence at the workplace
– Types of organizational communications at the workplace
– Communications issues & conflicts at the workplace
These topics have given some exposures about workplace communication especially about the importance of wise communication in today’s workplace. The 8-hour sharing session which started from 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m has received positive feedbacks and supports from the students who participated in the session. It is hoped that more activities especially in the form of collaborative teaching is conducted in the near future. This collaboration can also lead to many opportunities that will enhance students’ learning experience and the relationship between the institutions.
