UiTM Pulau Pinang and Hosei University Seal Strategic Global Partnership in Tokyo to Advance Engineering Education

TOKYO, 16 March 2026 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Pulau Pinang (UiTMCPP) has reached a new pinnacle in its internationalisation agenda following a high-level academic mission to Hosei University (HU), Japan on 6 February 2026. The visit culminated in the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), designed to accelerate academic synergy and global mobility between the two prestigious institutions.

The signing ceremony was executed in a hybrid format, witnessed virtually by the Rector of UiTMCPP, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Hj. Ahmad Rashidy Razali, together with international affairs officers. At the Hosei University campus, the delegation was received by HU President, Prof. Dr. Diana Ko, and a distinguished panel of university trustees and deans, including Executive Trustee Prof. Dr. Yutaka Tanaka and Global Education Center (GEC) Director Prof. Dr. Satoru Matsumoto.

The newly inked MoU serves as a comprehensive framework for research collaboration and knowledge exchange. Meanwhile, the three-year MoA specifically formalises the joint organisation of the International Mobility Programme: Global Project-Based Learning (gPBL). This agreement ensures the academic sustainability and quality of the gPBL, positioning it as a flagship initiative in experiential engineering education on the global stage.

Following the formal proceedings, the UiTM delegation—led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Azlan Othman—presented a technical demonstration for the gPBL 2026 project. The showcase featured robotic prototypes integrated with NI myRIO hardware and LabVIEW software, facilitating a high-level technical exchange with Japanese counterparts.

The upcoming gPBL 2026 is set to become a multicultural hub for innovation, involving participants from Hosei University (Japan), Fukuoka Institute of Technology (Japan), Universitas Negeri Malang (Indonesia), and National Changhua University of Education (Taiwan).

The mission also included productive research meetings and guest lectures delivered by the UiTM team, which included Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Salwa Damanhuri, Ir. Dr. Rozan Boudville, and Dr. Belinda Chong Chiew Meng. These sessions explored avenues for joint high-impact publications and interdisciplinary research.

This strategic alliance underscores UiTMCPP’s commitment to cultivating globally competent graduates. By providing students with access to world-class facilities and international peer networks, UiTM continues to empower the next generation of engineers with the problem-solving skills required for an interconnected technological landscape.
