KUALA LUMPUR, November 2, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), reaffirmed its commitment to public health and sustainability through EcoPharma 2025 x World Pharmacists Day, held on November 1–2 at Sunway Wangsawalk Mall, Kuala Lumpur. Building on the success of previous initiatives—the Safe Medication Disposal Campaign (2023) and EcoPharma@UCS (2024)—this year’s program focused on empowering communities with knowledge on safe medication use, storage, and disposal.
Carrying the theme “Community Empowerment through Safe Medication Use and Pharmaceutical Waste Disposal,” the event brought together academia, industry, and community stakeholders. Over 20 interactive booths, health screenings, and educational activities were led by UiTM scientists, pharmacy students, and supported by strategic partners.

This impactful program was made possible through the Industry Matching Programme (IMaP) grant from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), secured by Dr. Hisyam Abdul Hamid. Key collaborators included the Pharmacy Practice & Development Division (MOH), Pharmaceutical Association of Malaysia (PhAMA), and Alpro Pharmacy Sdn. Bhd., alongside Pfizer (M) Sdn. Bhd., Duopharma (M) Sdn. Bhd., NGOs, and local community partners. The launch of UiTM’s first permanent medication disposal bin, in collaboration with Alpro Pharmacy, marked a significant milestone. A symbolic act during the officiating gimmick—removing a patient’s name label before disposal—reinforced the importance of protecting personal data and public safety. Additionally, a mobile medication disposal unit was introduced to support Home Medication Review (HMR) activities and future outreach programs.
The two-day event attracted over 800 visitors, with awareness levels soaring from below 30% pre-event to over 90% post-engagement. More than 9 kilograms of expired or unused medicines were collected, demonstrating strong public readiness to adopt responsible practices.
EcoPharma 2025 was more than a campaign—it was a movement toward pharmaceutical responsibility. UiTM aims to expand this initiative to underserved communities, focusing on B40 households and rural areas in the next phase.
