UiTM Co-Hosted “AI: A Game Changer For Industry” Webinar with Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia

Shah Alam, November 2, 2024 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) recently collaborated with the Faculty of Computer Science at Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia, to host an international webinar entitled “AI: A Game Changer for the Industry.” This event, part of Malaysia’s Service Learning Program (SULAM), involved undergraduates from UiTM’s College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics (KPPIM) and Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Sriwijaya. This program has served as a platform for students to share their insights and express their opinions on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). 

This international webinar was conducted by Danial Thaqif Bin Mohamed Fikri, where the session commenced at 10:00 a.m. MYT (9:30 a.m. WIT), bringing together participants from Indonesia, Yemen, Japan and Italy. This virtually organized event was accessible via Google Meet platform and streamed live on the SULAM ’24 KPPIM UiTM YouTube channel. 

Among the distinguished attendees was Prof. Deris Setiawan from the Faculty of Computer Science at Universitas Sriwijaya. His presence alongside other key participants contributed valuable insights to the discussion, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the event.

This program began with an opening speech by Prof. Ts. Dr. Haryani Haron, executing the duties of Assistant Vice Chancellor KPPIM. In her speech, she has expressed her hopes that this program will spark momentum towards meaningful discussions that can inspire new ideas and encourage all to consider the role in creating a responsible digital future. Following the opening speech, students began sharing their insights covering distinct aspects of artificial intelligence and its transformative impact across industries. 

Muhammad Amir Sufi’s presentation on “Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligence” emphasized the role of AI in enhancing digital safety. Amir Zakariah offered valuable perspectives on “Autonomy, Control, and Moral Responsibility in AI-Driven Systems,” highlighting the ethical considerations in AI applications. Meanwhile, Ku Adam Harith discussed “How Industries Can Benefit from AI,” illustrating practical ways businesses can leverage AI technology for efficiency and innovation. These presentations underscored the vast potential and responsibilities associated with AI integration across sectors. All presenters were KPPIM students from the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons.) programs. The session was further enhanced by interactive pop quiz questions posed by the speakers, adding an engaging element to the webinar.

Prof. Ts Dr. Hj. Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Mohd Isa, Dean of Academic and International at KPPIM, delivered the closing remarks for the program. In his speech, he emphasized the university’s commitment to developing technology literacy. He remarked, “This enthusiasm is consistent with our common objective of using AI to revolutionize industries while also creating a more inclusive and supportive society.”

Participants expressed highly positive feedback following the event, praising the webinar for its insightful discussions and impactful presentations. Many attendees described the talks as both informative and inspiring, appreciating the depth of knowledge shared by the speakers on the future and challenges of AI. The collaborative aspect with Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia, was particularly well-received, with participants noting that it added a valuable international dimension to the discussions. 

Overall, the webinar was a huge success, providing essential insights into AI and highlighting a successful collaboration with Universitas Sriwijaya in Indonesia. This collaboration strengthened UiTM’s position in building a tech-savvy, forward-thinking generation ready to embrace the future of industry. This collaborative work provided participants with a broader, more global perspective on AI’s revolutionary potential, supporting UiTM’s dedication to pioneering technological innovations in education.
