PULAU PINANG, 3rd September 2023 – The 1st international mobility program, “Global Project Base Learning (gPBL) on Design of an intelligent control robotic system” was held at UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang (UiTMCPP) from 3rd till 14th September 2023. This program is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed by UiTM and Fukuoka Institute of Technology, Japan on the 27th Mar 2023.
This gPBL program was inspired by the inaugural event that our UiTMCPP students took part in from August 18–27, 2022, at King Mongkut Institute of Technology in Thailand. Delegations from Thailand (King Mongkut Institute of Technology), Malaysia (UiTMCPP), and Japan (Fukuoka Institute of Technology) attended this gPBL event, which was co-hosted by KMITL and FIT. Throughout their time at KMITL, our students picked up a lot of knowledge and gained useful experience.
In general, this gPBL is primarily derived from the International Engineering Practicum, which the FIT School of Engineering established since 2021 as a common subject primarily for third-year undergraduate students. These students who participate in training programs such as Global Project-Based Learning (gPBL) conducted jointly with partner universities overseas and complete the program will receive credit for their work.
Following a lengthy discussion with FIT Top Management with UiTM committee member (engineered by Electrical Engineering Studies, Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management and UiTM Global, UiTMCPP), UiTMCPP are officially organizing our 1st gPBL program supported by FIT, Japan and also UNM, Indonesia. This gPBL2023 focuses on 3 missions which are teleoperation of pneumatic robotics at FIT, Robovie-Nano (balanced and walking robot) and Mobile robot (pick and place). These three missions were facilitated by lecturers from FIT and also UiTMCPP.
This first global project-based learning (gPBL) programme will open up new prospects for all parties in larger perspective. More importantly, it gives our students the opportunity to gain educational, linguistic, and cultural advantages from the experience of studying in or with other nations. Additionally, this gPBL international mobility program provides the ideal setting for staffs and students to continue their education on a global scale. Through engaging in a variety of projects, all parties involved will have the opportunity to learn new information and develop new ideas.
The organisers of this gPBL2023 deserve special recognition for the effort and commitment they put forth to make this gPBL2023 a success. The team is made up of the Electrical Engineering Studies (Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Azlan Othman, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Salwa Damanhuri, Dr. Rozan Boudville, Dr. Belinda Chong Chiew Meng and Ts. Dr. Adi Izhar Che Ani), Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (Dr. Anderson Ngelambong and Mrs Johanna Adlin Ahmad) and UiTM Global (Dr. Nor Khadijah Mohd Azhari). More succinctly, the success of this gPBL2023 would not be possible without the support from the UiTMCPP top management. This program also would not be successful without the collaborative effort from FIT and UNM.
Looking forward to gPBL2024
