Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Curtin University Malaysia and Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) recently. UiTM Sarawak Rector Professor Dato Dr Jamil Haji Hamali signed the MoU on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Ts. Dr. Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor. Professor Simon Leunig, the Pro Vice Chancellor signed on behalf of Curtin University Malaysia while Amelia Roziman, the Chief Executive Officer signed on behalf of SCB. Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, Performing Arts, Youth & Entrepreneur Development was the guest of honour to witness the signing ceremony, accompanied by Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting. Among those present at the signing ceremony were UiTM Sarawak Deputy Rector Professor Dr Firdaus Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Business Professor Andreas Zins and Associate Professor Dr Margaret Chan.
Curtin University Malaysia is the company operating and managing Curtin University, Sarawak Campus, the largest international campus of Curtin University in Western Australia(ranks 194th in the QS World University Ranking 2022). It strives to provide quality education and richly interactive and personalized learning experience for its students, equipping them with the leadership skills for the future and valuing them as partners in education and research and as long-term influencers of change within society. On the other hand, SCB is non-profit organization where its main objectives are to promote business events under the guidance of the State Government of Sarawak, to strengthen the relationship among business opportunities of stakeholders in tourism and related service sectors and promotion of visitation to Sarawak. It wishes to launch International Journal of Business Events and Legacies (IJBEL) with the objective to publish major papers, reports and reviews providing high-quality content that advances knowledge for researchers, practitioners, consumers, and policymakers. Through this MoU, UiTM will collaborate with Curtin University Malaysia and SCB for the purpose of management and publication of IJBEL, aiming at disseminating knowledge about real-world issues in business events, with emphasis on business meetings, tourism, and legacies.
