Kuala Lumpur, 2 March 2022: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to strengthen formal collaboration already established between the two organisations. The memorandum was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UiTM Professor Datuk Ts. Dr
Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor and Group Chief Executive Officer En. Mohd Yusri Junos. It was witnessed by the Dean of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FPHP) UiTM, Prof. Dr Mohd Salehuddin Mohd Zahari and WTC Kuala Lumpur Group Managing Director, Dato ‘Sri Dr Hj Irmohizam Haji Ibrahim.

“This strategic collaboration strengthens industry ties ensuring UiTM remains competitive through knowledge sharing in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) and Business Events Industry sectors. As WTC Kuala Lumpur is a major contributor to the MICE industry in Malaysia, UiTM looks forward to many employment opportunities for its graduates. This will facilitate greater cooperation through sustainable development for better economic viability”, said Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed her appreciation for the formal collaboration and hoped that it would expand into productive synergies to address the knowledge and
skills gap between industry and academia. UiTM’s Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management is among the key players in the event management industry and ranked among the world’s best in the QS World University Rankings by Subject in the field of hospitality and tourism management (No. 2 in Malaysia).

Meanwhile, Dato’ Sri Dr Hj Irmohizam Haji Ibrahim said it was important for WTC Kuala Lumpur to collaborate with reputable institutions of higher learning in finding formulas
to catalyse on sustaining the hospitality sector. This will aid the sector’s post-pandemic recovery efforts. “The cooperation with UiTM will produce more skilled human capital,
as well as facilitate the development of both organisations,” he said. The signing of the MoC also focuses on the exchange of expertise in the MICE industry, creating opportunities for both partners to organise activities or projects that provide mutual benefits, including conferences, short-term courses and research related to tourism.
