Penang, 16 June 2025 – A group of Foodservice Management students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Pulau Pinang recently participated in an educational field trip to Sunway Medical Centre Penang, held under the strategic collaboration framework of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UiTM and Sunway Group Sdn. Bhd., signed in 2023. The program was conducted on 16 June 2025 as part of ongoing efforts to connect academic training with real-world industry practices.
Organised by the Foodservice Department, Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, the visit saw participation from both local diploma students and exchange students from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Bangkok. Accompanied by their lecturers, students were welcomed by representatives of the hospital’s Food & Beverage and Dietetics Department, who conducted a comprehensive briefing and guided tour.

Throughout the session, students were immersed in the behind-the-scenes operations of the hospital’s institutional foodservice system. They gained valuable insight into how nutrition and meal services are managed in a clinical setting, bridging their theoretical knowledge with hands-on exposure to industry practices—particularly in the specialised field of healthcare foodservice.
Lecturers also found the visit enriching, as it enabled them to better align course content with evolving industry standards. This reflects UiTM’s continuous commitment to delivering programmes that remain relevant to current sector needs, enhancing student preparedness for professional roles.
The field trip marks another milestone in the UiTM–Sunway Group partnership, showcasing both institutions’ dedication to expanding student learning opportunities and strengthening industry-academic engagement. Initiatives like these play a pivotal role in cultivating well-rounded graduates ready to serve in niche sectors with specialised knowledge and practical readiness.
