PUNCAK ALAM, 21 June 2025 – In a powerful demonstration of advocacy and inclusion, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and the Department of Paediatrics at Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah (HASA) jointly organised a community engagement programme themed “Embracing Disability as Diversity” on 21 June 2025 at EcoWorld Gallery, Puncak Alam.
The event was held in response to growing concerns highlighted by UNICEF regarding the marginalisation of children with disabilities in Malaysia. With the aim of celebrating children with neurodisabilities, supporting their families, and raising public awareness, the programme brought together over 30 children and their families, alongside healthcare professionals, community members, and para-athletes.
The day began with a morning walk around Dragonfly Lake, Eco Grandeur, followed by an official opening ceremony officiated by Dr. Wan Najwa Wan Mohd Zohdi, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. A spirited senamrobik session added energy and excitement to the morning.
The programme featured a series of educational talks by medical specialists, covering topics such as epilepsy management, choking and tube feeding, oral healthcare, and an introduction to para sports. A deeply moving sharing session by a parent of a child with disabilities offered a heartfelt perspective that resonated with many in attendance.

Interactive games and bonding activities followed, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere. A gift presentation ceremony saw each child receiving a token of appreciation, before the event concluded with a closing address by Dr. Nor Azizah Abu, Head of the Department of Paediatrics.
Adding further inspiration were representatives and athletes from Persatuan Renang Para Selangor and Persatuan Boccia Selangor, who shared their personal journeys in para sports, encouraging parents to envision bright futures for their children.
The event also offered free dental and general health screenings, courtesy of the Department of Paediatric Dentistry and the Department of Primary Care Medicine.
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and the unwavering commitment of the organising departments, the event was a resounding success. Parents expressed heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to connect, learn, and feel empowered in planning for their children’s futures.
Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah remains committed to fostering inclusion, raising awareness, and supporting children with disabilities as valued members of society. Future initiatives will continue to build on this momentum, ensuring that no child is left behind.
