A Sustainable Study Sharing Session with Professor Dr Martina Maria Keitsch from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology

The Malaysian Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education) has emphasised the imperative of enhancing collaboration between institutions and the industry. On Monday, October 9, 2023, the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) collaborated on an Expert Forum Sharing Session featuring Professor Dr. Martina Maria Keitsch from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway. This programme offers an exciting and instructive session that enables the transformation of sustainable studies and the exploration of a wide range of knowledge.

This event took place at UiTM GESTURZ, and aimed to establish a platform for dialogue within the realm of sustainable design management, surpassing conventional limits by delving into the intricacies of sustainability studies and envisioning a brighter future for global communities. Both local and international participants were afforded an invaluable opportunity to exchange experiences and expertise.

Hosted by the School of Creative Arts under the leadership of Dr Siti Salwa Isa and En Abu Ali, the event was jointly organised by the Department of International Business and Management Studies under the initiatives of Associate Professor Dr Nor Lelawati Jamaludin from the Faculty of Business & Management, supported by students from the Department of Post Graduate Studies FBM, and GESTURZ UiTM.

The programme involved diverse activities designed to engage and inspire participants. The morning session featured an enthralling sharing session with Professor Dr Martina Maria Keitsch from Norway, providing a unique opportunity to glean insights and perspectives from her sustainability-related studies and experiences. Throughout the event, diligent and dedicated students who actively participated in the programme were duly acknowledged and awarded certificates, recognising their invaluable contributions. Thoughtful gifts were also presented to Professor Dr Martina as a sign of heartfelt gratitude from the organisers.

A notable highlight of the event was the group activity that involved dividing participants into eight groups- each group was entrusted with constructing creative ideas aligned with the chosen sustainable goals and catering to societal demands. It is also necessary for them to cultivate innovative designs that introduce novel and imaginative resolutions that are able to captivate and engage both the society at large and the intended target audience. Skillfully utilising what they have learned during the talk, participants created distinctive representations that effectively captured their understanding and connection to these integral facets of their lives. All groups were successful in communicating, producing and describing the innovative output according to the project aims.

This initiative contributes to the current need for creating an academic ecosystem that responds to the changing higher education scenario and promotes innovative pedagogies for resilient education that nurtures tomorrow’s mind. The knowledge shared, connections forged, and memories created during this event will definitely leave a lasting impression on the participants, and propel them to contribute further to the realm of sustainability management and decision-making.

This collaboration model nurtures closer understanding from the participating faculties, and universities to work towards the same goals. Under this program, the strategic partnership sees an exchange of ideas and the development of quality and practical solutions applicable to societies. Thus, the spotlighted program is an excellent measure to move the Faculty of Business and Management, College of Creative Arts, and UiTM forward and make it more visible.
