SHAH ALAM, 26 September 2023 – To promote cross-cultural understanding and enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, the College of Engineering at UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia, partnered with the Faculty of Education at Toyama University in Japan. This initiative, supported by a UNESCO grant, introduced an online international exchange program that brought together over 200 students from various primary and secondary schools in both countries.
The collaboration aimed to foster communication and knowledge sharing between Malaysian and Japanese students, encouraging them to appreciate the diversity of languages and cultures. The program, which began in 2021, has garnered significant praise from all stakeholders involved.
Dr. Marfiah Ab Wahid, a senior lecturer at the School of Civil Engineering, UiTM, played an important role as an advisor and facilitator for the participating schools. Her dedication to the program has been instrumental in its success.
To solidify the relationships built over the past two years, a delegation from Toyama, Japan, paid a visit to Malaysia on 25 and 26 September 2023. The delegation visited three Malaysian schools involved in the program: SMK Shahbandaraya in Klang, SK Bukit Kemuning 2 in Klang, and SK Batu Laut in Kuala Langat.
This visit not only showcased the warm welcome extended by the Malaysian schools but also emphasized the importance of international collaboration in education. The College of Engineering Studies at UiTM Shah Alam was instrumental in facilitating this visit, further reinforcing the bonds created through the online exchange program.
