Muhammad Zuhairi bin Mohd Said, from Batu Pahat, Johor, is a third-semester student at Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM) Shah Alam pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He had never stepped foot in UiTM since the pandemic and was granted a chance this semester since he had an engineering survey laboratory that needed hands on training. Ir Dr. Ismacahyadi Bagus B. Mohamed Jais is a lecturer who teaches the topic, and the students were taught how to set up the surveying instruments, which are the theodolite and total station, in today’s class session. They were also shown how to take survey bearings. Muhammad Zuhairi like the way Ir Dr. Ismacahyadi Bagus B. Mohamed Jais teaches because he communicates and engages with the students well. Muhammad Zuhairi is overjoyed to have been given the opportunity to conduct his survey laboratory face to face with his colleagues.
The laboratory topic, which takes about seven weeks to complete, must be led by a lecturer, and students must be able to handle, examine, and investigate the subject given to them, as well as use laboratory apparatus and instruments. After the laboratory, the students will return home and continue their education via open distance learning, ODL. Despite the fact that the pandemic has kept students away from campus, he continues to value ODL and is doing well in class. For students enrolled in Engineering Survey, ECG422, the programme outcomes covered are PO1, PO4, and PO9, which are based on the generic attributes of engineering graduates.
There are a total of 12 programme outcome attributes that the School of Civil Engineering complies to, all of which are drawn from the manual of the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) Malaysia, which is also aligned with Washington Accord and Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM.) And each phrase used to define the POs is consistent with and associated with the subjects taught at UiTM’s School of Civil Engineering.
In conclusion, graduates of the School of Civil Engineering adhere to the mission of UiTM, which is to lead the development of agile, professional bumiputeras through state-of-the-art curricula and impactful research.
