Two active and outstanding lecturers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia were given recognition by the Board of Engineers (BEM) Malaysia and received prestigious appointments recently.
Prof. Ir. Dr. Norlida Buniyamin was recently appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) for the session 2019/2020. The appointment was based on Norlida’s active participation and contribution to the engineering fraternity both in Malaysia and in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.
Norlida has actively contributed to the improvement and maintenance of the standards of engineering education in Malaysia and in the ASEAN region. In 2018, she was elected as the first woman Head Commissioner of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisation (AFEO, established in 1972). She is a board member of BEM since 2017 and is currently chairing the Training and Education committee of the BEM. She is also a member of the National Monitoring Committee (NMC), BEM, that monitors the standards and mobility of Malaysian professional engineers. She was also the recipient of the 2016 IEM Women Engineer Award. Her recent publications include ‘Current knowledge management activities in a manufacturing company in Malaysia: A case study’ in the Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Journal and ‘Simulation Study of a Modified Rectangular Microstrip for the Hyperthermia Breast Cancer Procedure with SEMCAD X Solver’ in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series and her publications can be viewed via ORCID ID 0000-0002-4256-6809.
Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Juliana Johari, the Dean for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UiTM, was recently appointed as a member of the Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC), BEM. She is also an Affiliate Professor (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering) at the B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, INDIA.
She was responsible for developing and planning the setting up of the National Instrument Virtual Instrumentation Laboratory at FKE. She has attended intensive professional training in NI Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD). She is a senior member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (SMIEEE) and was Chairman of the IEEE Education Malaysia Chapter from 2013 to 2018. She is a member of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO). Her current project includes leading a team of researchers from four different faculties in UiTM with a Special Grant (TR@MS) under the National Strategic Research Program from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia in 2017 to develop an Urban intelligenT Mobile-Autonomous Vehicle (UiTM-AV1). Her publications include ‘Real-Time Optimal Trajectory Correction (ROTC) for Autonomous Quadrotor’ in the 9th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering, ICCSCE 2019 and ‘Estimation of communication link on Ground Sensor Terminal (GST) system for nanosatellite (UiTMSAT-1) store-and-forward mission’ in the 8th IEEE International Conference on System Engineering and Technology, ICSET 2018.
