Shah Alam, 5 December 2023 – A SULAM (Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society) initiative to raise awareness on information and cyber security was successfully organised by College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM) Universiti Teknologi MARA Kampus Puncak Perdana in collaboration with Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Jawa, Shah Alam.
Attended by over 100 students, the game-based educational activity was carried out at Pavilion Lestari Al-Ihsan, SK Padang Jawa, facilitated by 15 UiTM students from the Bachelor of Information Science (Hons) Information Content Management. Sandwich board knowledge concepts were applied and presented as a medium for knowledge transmission. The use of interactive videos from CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) was also included as part of the activity to create cyber-awareness. In addition to the informative and illustrative information, online security-themed games were designed to encourage and attract the pupils to active learning through an engaging interactive environment.
Workshop attendees were also trained on password etiquettes, hacking dangers, and online gaming safety which is followed with the pupils playing online security-themed games manifesting a program structure that fits the interest of the young generation.
Muhammad Rayyan Mikail bin Mohammad Badlisham who was one of the participants expressed gratitude to UiTM for making him more cyber-aware. Arjuna Mikhael bin Zulkarnain, also one of the participants, further added, “I love this activity! I really hope that we can do more fun activities like this in the future”.
KPPIM SULAM 2023/2024 programme is one of the initiatives aimed at empowering and serving the community through volunteer activities. Undergraduates are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge practically and discover how the knowledge they have acquired can also improve the living standards of the local community. The activities also support the aspirations of Fourth, and Eleventh Sustainable Development Goals, which are Quality Education, as well as Sustainable Cities and Communities. It is also in line with the visions of Malaysia Madani.
