The prosperous growth of tourism is reflected in the increasing number of travelers globally and its contribution to worldwide economic development. However, the sector has been exposed to risks and uncertainties, especially with health crises that have become more prevalent in recent decades. Even though crisis management has been extensively researched and documented, focus on health crisis management in tourism is lacking and requires significant attention.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation awards the research project, which consists of case studies of selected APEC economies, aims to examine best practices, strategies, procedures, and actions planned and employed to avert and cope with health crises that affect the tourism industry.
The project outcomes will provide essential insights to tourism stakeholders on the complex and intricate nature of tourism when affected by health crises, mobilisation and assessment of resources, particularly the preparedness, resiliency and long-term viability of tourism destinations in APEC economies.
