Shah Alam, 26th October 2023 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) through College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU).
Professor Ts. Dr Haryani Haron, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for KPPIM represented the university in signing the MoU. It is a prestigious collaboration as STOU has a dignified history of being officially established by the Royal Charter as Thailand’s eleventh state university. Furthermore, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) graciously bestowed the university its name in honor of King Prajadhipok (King Rama VII), who once held the title “Prince Sukhothai Thammaracha” prior his accession to the throne. At its founding, STOU was the first university in Southeast Asia to use the distance learning system offering more mediums for learning opportunities.
The collaboration was fostered a decade ago, also in the form of MoU by the Faculty of Information Management (now School of Information Science, part of KPPIM). PhD doctoral colloquium, research and publication collaboration are some of the activities that have been done for the past years. With the aim of educating on the latest theoretical principles of librarianship, new research and publication of related domains are expected to be conducted.
In this MoU pipeline, apart from existing activities that have been done for the past 10 years, KPPIM intends to conduct corporate social responsibility (CSR) with disability and a needed society in Thailand. STOU looks forward in elevating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) goals and targets through this MoU. This demonstrates that the MoU is not just an alliance between two institutions but also a collaborative effort to make a positive impact on the industry, society, and beyond. Together, STOU and UiTM will drive innovation, promote sustainable development, and create new opportunities for growth and prosperity.
