7 October 2021 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Dandy Modern Food Sdn. Bhd. at the Dandy’s restaurant.
Dandy Modern Food Sdn. Bhd. was represented by YBrs. Mr Jamal Haddad, Managing Director and witnessed by YBrs Mdm. Michelle Yeo Suk Ling, Executive Director. Meanwhile, UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang (UiTMCPP) was represented by YBhg. Prof Ts Dr Salmiah Kasolang, Rector UiTMCPP and witnessed by YBrs. Associate Prof ChM Dr Nor Aziyah Bakhari, Deputy Rector of Research & Industrial Linkages. This MoU is initiated by lecturers from the Faculty of Hotel & Tourism Management (FPHP) UiTMCPP; Chef Ahmad Fauzan, Chef Mohd Syafiq, Chef Putri Dahlia, Chef Nik Mohd Shahril, Associate Prof Dr Norfezah and Dr Suria.
Dandy Modern Food Sdn. Bhd. is a food and beverage service company located at No 72-1-17 & 18, 2-18 & 3-18 Arena Curve, Jalan Mahsuri, 11950 Bayan Lepas, Penang. Dandy also provides a platform for young people to develop their talents in areas such as lifelong learning, progressive research, and innovation.
Excitement and pride in collaborating with Dandy Modern Food Sdn Bhd stems from the fact that this restaurant brand has been touched by lecturers from FPHP, UiTMCPP, from the beginning till today. Beginning with the fundamental framework, which existed prior to the brand’s creation five years ago. The FPHP consulting team, UiTMCPP, was founded with the goal of executing all of the ideas and concepts agreed upon by Dandy’s owner, Mr. Jamal Hadad, a Lebanese national.
Dandy currently has two locations in Penang and plans to expand into Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Almost all of the employees (90%) are UiTM alumni or students enrolled in practical training, Work-Based Learning (WBL), and Experiential Learning for Culinary Arts, Hotel Management (Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree) programmes. Dandy is a highly relevant venue for comprehensive training and field research because to the latest and best hospitality equipment and amenities owned by this Restaurant.
The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding will provide further chances for both sides. This relationship is the ideal platform for borderless and global education, as all parties will have the opportunity to produce new knowledge and ideas through a variety of activities and initiatives involving UiTM students and staff and industry partners. In the areas of research development, innovation, curriculum, CSR, human capital, technology, and others, this MoU will serve as a bridge between academicians and industry participants, benefiting staff and students as well as UiTM-Dandy staff.
The presence of YBhg. Dato’ Haji Abdul Halim Haji Hussain (Penang State Minister for Trade, Industry & Entrepreneurial Development), YBhg. Dato’ Haji Abdul Malik Abdul Kassim (Former Penang State Exco Member) and YBhg. Dato’ Seri Syed Jaafar Syed Ali (Chairman Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation Penang) enlivened the mood of the mou signing ceremony.
