29th June 2024, UiTM Kota Samarahan, Sarawak: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), organized the Sarawak Youth Business Idea Competition 2023 (SaYBIC 23) to foster entrepreneurship and innovation among university students. The competition is a key part of the broader Youth Entrepreneur Setup (YES) 2024 programme, which aims to equip Sarawak’s tertiary students with the skills to navigate and succeed in a competitive global economy.
SaYBIC 23 is designed to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to navigate and thrive in the increasingly challenging global economic landscape. Associate Professor Dr. Jati Kasuma from UiTM Sarawak’s Faculty of Business Management emphasized the importance of this initiative during his speech at the competition’s final round, held at the civic centre yesterday.
“SaYBIC 23 is both timely and relevant, providing a crucial platform for students to explore and develop creative business concepts. This competition is key to nurturing a generation of students who can build innovative business empires,” Dr. Jati Kasuma remarked. Highlighting the collaboration between MYSED and UiTM Sarawak, Dr. Jati Kasuma expressed gratitude for the partnership, which aligns with the Sarawak government’s efforts to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The competition not only encourages students to be competitive but also to be resilient and proactive in creating new job opportunities through entrepreneurship.
“We must ensure our students are not solely reliant on existing job opportunities but are also empowered to create new ones through entrepreneurship,” Dr. Jati Kasuma emphasized. The Sarawak Youth Business Idea Competition 2023 is a cornerstone of the YES 2024 programme, which runs from June 28 to 30. The results of the competition are set to be announced at the official opening of YES 2024 today, 29th June 2024.
The Youth Entrepreneur Setup event, hosted by MYSED, commenced at Suarah Hall in Miri on Friday. Among those present at the event were Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr. Ripin Lamat, Permanent Secretary of MYSED Morshidi Frederick, Deputy Permanent Secretary Dolhadi Mazuki, and Coordinator of MASMED UiTM Sarawak, Dr. Malvern Abdullah, along with other distinguished guests.
