SHAH ALAM, 29 MARCH 2022– Rakan Alam Sekitar (RAS) 2.0 was launched in conjunction with the Closing Ceremony of Sustain the World Virtual Camp 2022 organized by student association Institute of Chemical Engineers UiTM Student Chapter (IChemE-UiTM SC), together with IChemE-Monash Student Chapter, IChemE-UCSI Student Chapter, UiTM Green Centre (UGC) and Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysia.

Ministry of Environment and Water in empowering Rakan Alam Sekitar, also known as RAS has launched Rakan Alam Sekitar 2.0. The main objective is to increase the community’s involvement through hands on activities while at the same to become the eyes and ears in assisting government agencies in combating activities that could harm the environment. Thus, RAS 2.0@UiTM and Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter is launched to support the agenda of Rakan Alam Sekitar 2.0. Through the community of UiTM involvement, it is hope to further assist the Department of Environment in protecting and sustaining the environment. Additionally, Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter is trusted to College of Engineering UiTM to support sustainable initiatives among the community of UiTM.

During the event, as a symbolic gesture for the launching of Rakan Alam Sekitar 2.0, Minister of Environment and Water, Dato’ Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man handed a tree to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), Prof Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mohd Fozi Ali and signing plaque for the launching of Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter. The event was witnessed by Deputy Secretary General (Environment) , Puan Noor Afifah Binti Abdul Razak, Head Director of the Department of Environment, Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affair), Professor Dr Mohd Sazili Shahibi. In his speech, Prof Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mohd Fozi Ali congratulated the students in organizing sustainable programs and initiatives and highlighted the importance of the community of UiTM to continuously committed in creating strategic collaborations among the industry players to guarantee the sustainability of the environment.

Thus, with the launch of Rakan Alam Sekitar 2.0 and Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter, it will help to strengthen the involvement of the community of UiTM in activities related to preservation and conservation of the environment. This is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Sustainability Road Map UiTM which are the key references in planning and managing activities in Universiti Teknologi MARA.
