SHAH ALAM, 20th September 2023 – Universiti Teknologi MARA through the College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM), has successfully organized and hosted the 6th ISM International Statistical Conference 2023 (ISM-VI 2023). The conference which took place at the Concorde Hotel Shah Alam from the 19th to the 20th of September 2023 was officially inaugurated by Yang Berbahagia Professor Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
ISM International Statistical Conference is the flagship biennial event of the Institut Statistik Malaysia (ISM). The 6th edition marks a significant milestone for UiTM as it hosts the conference for the first time. Previously, the honour was given to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Malaya (UM) and Sunway University.
Jointly organized with Institut Statistik Malaysia (ISM), ISM-VI 2023 brings forth the theme “Empowering Statistical Science and Analytics Through Research and Innovation” .In the ever-growing world of data analytics and futuristic demands, the theme aptly reflects how statistics, theory, and application should coexist in the development of cutting-edge technology solutions. The conference served as a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent research and innovations, as well as practical challenges and solutions in the domains of pure and applied statistics.
Yang Berbahagia Professor Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor and Associate Professor Dr. Arief Gusnanto ( University of Leeds, United Kingdom) graced the conference with their keynote speeches. In addition, three plenary speakers have also shared their vast experiences including Professor Dr. Habshah Midi (President of ISM), Professor Dr. Hizir Sofyan from Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh and Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin (Chief Statistician Malaysia) from the Department of Statistic Malaysia (DOSM) who was represented by En Zuraidy Zainal Abidin.
ISM-VI 2023 successfully received more than 100 participants and over 70 research papers from local universities and abroad including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Oman, Qatar, and UAE. This prestigious event garnered robust support and sponsorship from SAS Institute, Institut Latihan Statistik Malaysia (ILSM) , and Department of Statistic Malaysia (DOSM). Their unwavering commitment in addition to united cooperation of the co-organisers undeniably propelled ISM-VI 2023 towards its objectives of fostering collaboration and networking among attendees and delegates.
ISM-VI 2023 showcases innovative research and ideas across statistics, mathematics and big data fields. This strongly aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals . The objectives of the conference also holistically align with the government’s aspiration of Malaysia Madani.
