Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM) Malaysia Senior Lecturer Dr. Vincent Daniel David George’s paper entitled “Flow over underwater inclination plane using forced Korteweg-de Vries (fKdV) via Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM)” won the best paper presenter award at the International Conference on Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) in Chennai, India on 6th March 2020.
The novelty of the manuscript is, a specific forced KdV model was solved using semi-analytical technique, in which up to now only numerical solutions are available. In addition, the theoretical solution was used to analyse the wave phenomenon over an underwater inclination plane. Dr.Vincent was awarded with a certificate and an honorarium.
The conference which was organized by Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai, India together with FSKM, UiTM was held from 4th to 6th March 2020 at Chennai, India. There were more than 110 papers presented at the conference from various fields in mathematics, with presenters globally. The main aim of ICMS is to provide a platform for academicians, scientists, engineers and research scholars to share new and current research findings and discuss the practical challenges with solutions adopted.
The co-authors of the paper were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arifah binti Bahar and Prof. Dr. Zainal Abdul Aziz. Currently, Dr. Arifah is the director of Centre of Industrial Mathematics, UTM-CIAM and Dr. Zainal is an adjunct professor in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia cum director of MYHIMS Solutions PLT. Recently, Dr Vincent also published two related articles in indexed journals entitled, “Transcritical Flow Over a Bump using Forced Korteweg-de Vries Equation” and “Heat and Mass Transfer of Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) Boundary Layer Flow using Homotopy Analysis Method”.
Using HAM in forced KdV, the paper shows HAM approximated analytical solution that could explain the interaction patterns of water waves due to external disturbances. In MHD, the paper describes the influences of physical parameters such as magnetic parameter, Prandtl number and radiation parameter using convergent HAM solution.
